Not only have I learnt from my counterparts at our other school, TCA, based on the Wisbech Campus, but also from all schools across the Brooke Weston Trust. In just a few weeks, I have had access to numerous training courses, both internally and externally, which have been crucial in helping me develop my role. I have enjoyed every moment in my new position, surrounded by dedicated, kind, and caring staff who all share the same high aspirations for the young people we work with, delivered with passion and kindness.

I oversee the English curriculum, ensuring students develop their skills in reading, writing in a range of contexts and speaking and listening, and give them access to a wide range of interesting texts. I also oversee the whole school Literacy Strategy, which prioritises the development of reading skills across the school.

How long have you worked at TWA?

I started at TWA in September 2024, but I felt part of the team even before my official start date!

What attracted you to the position at TWA?

It’s not often in your teaching career that you get to build something from the ground up (metaphorically and also literally!). This position gives me an opportunity to make conscious and intentional decisions about the English curriculum and the path that students will take through it. That is very exciting. I also love how many other projects there are to get involved with – as a small team, there are lots of opportunities for professional growth, supported by a really strong CPD offer from Brooke Weston Trust.

Describe your journey at TWA.

My journey at TWA has been a journey of first days: first day meeting the team, first day meeting parents and students, first day in our temporary home. I wasn’t really sure what to expect when I first met the team on our induction day in June 2024, but I didn’t need to worry – it quickly became clear that we are closely aligned in both passion and intent.  Meeting our students and their families was such an important moment for all concerned and I think parents were reassured that such a friendly and caring team had come together to open a school in such unusual circumstances.

Those first impressions were important, but now I am focusing on growth: increasing the English provision for our students, taking on responsibility at a whole school level for timetabling, data and reporting, and mentoring an ECT. On a temporary basis, I am also SENCO for TWA, so I’m definitely keeping busy!

What training/professional development opportunities have you taken advantage of since being at TWA?

As a team, we are completing the Education Institute’s Behaviour and Culture course, as well as a cross-campus formative assessment project with SSAT. BWT encourages regular and ongoing CPD aligned to the individual’s needs, so I will be taking part in further SEND training later this year.

Would you recommend TWA to prospective staff?

I really would! I have thoroughly enjoyed my first term at TWA – I was ready for a change of direction in my career and working here has reignited my passion for education. Being involved in this unique context is incredibly fulfilling, as the positive effects on the local community will be substantial and far-reaching.

What is your role at TWA?

I am the head of Humanities at TWA.  I oversee the curriculum for Humanities.

How long have you worked at TWA?

I have been working at TWA since the 6th January 2025.

What attracted you to the position at TWA?

I was drawn to the position at TWA because of its commitment to academic excellence and focus on fostering a holistic and inclusive learning environment. Furthermore, the opportunity to build and lead a Humanities department that creates a rich, integrated curriculum that engages students with history, geography, culture, and citizenship deeply resonated with me.

Describe your teaching journey prior to TWA

I hold a BA from Auckland University, a teaching diploma from AUT, and I am submitting my Master’s thesis on reading intervention and self-efficacy beliefs this year. With my secondary teaching experience in New Zealand, I have developed a passion for fostering student success regardless of subject area, having taught across both English and Humanities departments. I supported the development of a school-wide literacy strategy and implementation, as well as professional development initiatives for my subject areas. My passion for education extends beyond the classroom, as I have mentored students in leadership roles; guided a variety of extracurricular groups, including Writer's Club, Amnesty International, Debating, and Model UN; and coached/ managed a variety of sports teams over the years.

What would you like to see happen when working at TWA?

I strongly believe that the Humanities play a vital role in shaping empathetic, informed global citizens. With that in mind, I hope to see us sharing stories, exploring diverse cultures, and making connections between the past, literature, and contemporary issues. I look forward to contributing to the vibrant learning environment at TWA and inspiring students to see the Humanities as a pathway to understanding and shaping the world around them.

What is your role at TWA?

I am the Head of Creative Arts at TWA. In this role, I oversee curriculum for Drama and Music. We will also be looking forward to launching Art next year. I ensure that both curricular and super-curricular provisions are both innovative and engaging.

What attracted you to the position at TWA?

I was drawn to the position at TWA because the vision of the Senior Leadership Team (SLT) and the trust aligns closely with my own educational beliefs. The opportunity to help grow a school from scratch that shares my ethos was incredibly appealing. Being one of the pioneers allows me to give back to a community close to where I grew up and support students in becoming their best selves. Additionally, TWA offers a wide variety of personal and career development opportunities, which was a significant factor in my decision.

Later this year, I will also be starting my National Professional Qualification for Senior Leadership (NPQSL).

I am also proud to be the Pupil premium lead, Pastoral Behaviour Lead. I coordinate and develop the new Wisbech Academy Parent Teacher Friends Association and I look after staff and student wellbeing.

How long have you worked at TWA?

Since before the school opened. I started on the curriculum planning immediately after being offered the role. I was inspired and excited to get started straight away.
