Claire Gibson - Head of Maths
Claire Gibson is excited to join The Wisbech Academy as Head of Mathematics. She brings a wealth of experience and enthusiasm to her role, having joined the school when it opened in September. Claire was drawn to the opportunity to lead her own department and help shape the school from its inception. Building something from the ground up allows her to bring her vision to life and influence the school's culture, which she finds incredibly rewarding. The smaller school environment aligns perfectly with her belief in fostering strong relationships with students and helping them achieve their very best.
What inspires Claire most as a teacher is witnessing those “lightbulb moments” when a student truly understands something for the first time—especially in maths. Helping students master concepts they once thought impossible keeps her motivated to continually improve as a professional. Claire loves teaching geometry and topics like Pythagoras’ Theorem, guiding students on a learning journey that makes even the most challenging concepts accessible and exciting.
Before joining TWA, Claire spent four years teaching at a local secondary school, where she led Key Stage 3 Maths and developed extra-curricular opportunities for students. She also promoted independent learning and strong study habits, leading to significant successes for her students. Prior to that, she spent 13 years as Numeracy Lead at an OFSTED-rated “Good” school with “Outstanding” features, coordinating interventions and support for all learners, including those with SEND.
For Claire, creating an inclusive learning environment where students feel inspired to problem-solve and aim high is essential. She believes that fostering curiosity and a sense of wonder in maths can help every student develop the confidence to succeed.
Claire is also passionate about building strong partnerships with parents and the wider community. At TWA, she looks forward to working closely with families to create a positive and supportive environment for students, as well as helping to develop the ‘Parents and Friends of The Wisbech Academy’ group.
It’s an exciting time to be part of The Wisbech Academy, and Claire is delighted to contribute to its success and growth.
