Exciting New Partnership: The Wisbech Academy and the Jon Egging Trust

Claire Gibson, Head of Mathematics at The Wisbech Academy, has announced an inspiring new partnership with the Jon Egging Trust. This collaboration aims to raise aspirations and broaden horizons for our students, providing them with unique opportunities to develop both academically and personally.

About the Jon Egging Trust

The Jon Egging Trust was established in memory of Red Arrows pilot Jon Egging, who tragically lost his life during an air show in 2011. The Trust works with young people to help them overcome adversity, identify their strengths, and work towards their goals. Their programmes focus on building confidence, teamwork, and leadership skills, which are essential for success in any field.

The Jon Egging Trust offers several key programmes that will greatly benefit our students:

  • Blue Skies Programme: This flagship youth engagement initiative is designed for students aged 11-16 and focuses on developing social and emotional learning (SEL) skills. It includes:
    • Full Blue Skies Syllabus: A comprehensive three-year programme.
    • Blue Skies Inspire Package: A shorter, bespoke version tailored to meet specific needs.
    • Both syllabuses aim to build confidence, self-esteem, aspiration, and work readiness among participants, equipping them with resilience to achieve their full potential.
  • Inspirational Outreach (IO): This programme provides customised impact days or a series of sessions tailored to the needs of schools. Key features include:
    • Delivery by Youth Liaison Officers: Sessions are conducted by trained officers in collaboration with inspirational mentors such as military personnel and business leaders.
    • Focus on Local Role Models: Engaging local figures can help students relate better and see achievable paths in their careers.

A Message from Claire Gibson

“As the Head of Mathematics, I am incredibly excited about this partnership with the Jon Egging Trust. Their commitment to inspiring young people aligns perfectly with our mission at The Wisbech Academy. We believe that every student has the potential to achieve great things, and through this collaboration, we can provide them with the tools and experiences they need to succeed.”

What This Means for Our Students

Through this partnership, our students will have access to a range of exciting programmes and activities designed to inspire and motivate them. The combined efforts of the Blue Skies Programme and Inspirational Outreach will provide our students with essential social and emotional learning (SEL) skills, helping them build confidence, self-esteem, and resilience.

These programmes include:

  • Mentorship Programmes: Students will be paired with mentors who can provide guidance and support as they navigate their educational journey.
  • Workshops and Seminars: Interactive sessions that focus on developing key skills such as problem-solving, critical thinking, and effective communication.
  • Real-World Experiences: Opportunities to engage with professionals from various industries, giving students a glimpse into the skills required to succeed.

We anticipate that these initiatives will not only enhance academic performance but also foster personal growth by instilling vital life skills in our students.

Looking Ahead

We are confident that this partnership will have a profound impact on our students, helping them to realise their full potential and achieve their dreams. Claire Gibson and the entire team at The Wisbech Academy are committed to making the most of this opportunity and are excited to see the positive outcomes it will bring.
